Just to comment on this, you mentioned that the new Islamic year is celebrated by “hundreds of millions of people”… really?
The act of celebrating this month would actually be considered unislamic… Muslims shouldn’t be celebrating any occassion except the two Eid’s!
Rather, the new Islamic year, “Muharram”, is significant to Muslims as it’s one of the 4 sacred months in the sight of God during which doing a lot of good deeds has more blessings – inshAllah.
The most beloved and most rewarding month in Islam is Ramadan, during which Muslims are commanded to observe fasting and during which Muslims believe the Qur’an was revealed.
